Liverpool
have become an effective winning unit amidst their unbeaten start to the league
season, and winning run from last season which stands at 15 games. That
invincibility, however, has developed an innate nature of winning games without
playing at their best.
Jürgen
Klopp’s charges currently stand five points above Manchester City at the top of
the Premier League table and their ruthlessness has been epitomised by the
red-hot form of striker Roberto Firmino this season.
BOBBY SZN
The
eccentric Brazilian is a firm favourite with The Kop, and his increased potency
in front of goal –which recently yielded his 50th premier league
goal, the first Brazilian to do so- has been markedly evident with a striker
who famously works to create space for his fellow attackers rather than crave
the back of the net.
Bobby has
notched three goals and three assists from five Premier League starts; he leads
the assists chart in the Liverpool squad and is only one behind Mo Salah and
Sadio Mané for goals scored.
Meanwhile, Firmino
works tirelessly as ever, and has an increased creative influence having supplied
five big chances in six games (already three short of the whole of last
season). He is also taking more chances for himself with 21 shots so far,
behind only Sergio Aguero in the league on 25.
Firmino’s shooting ratio has gone up to 3.8 per game from 2.2 last season in what seems a conscious effort to affect games by himself. Bobby is quite simply embracing the they don’t go in if you don’t hit them approach.
Alongside
his tireless work rate, link up play and excellent movement to create space for
Salah and Mané; a consistent supply of goals from their number nine could prove
the difference Liverpool need to surmount City in the title race.
The ChampionsLeague holders came just short last year by drawing one-too-many games; Firmino’s mean streak coming at a time when Salah and Mané are also
at their imperious best bodes well for Liverpool’s title charge.
The
confidence oozing from a squad that can’t stop winning starks in contrast to City
who are light in defence.
Firmino’s
work ethic and technical quality in the build-up makes him the Premier League’s
most complete striker. His added ruthlessness in front of goal as Liverpool
chase a first title since 1990 could endear the number nine further into
Liverpool folklore.

Amidst all the
stardust and no-look flicks, Liverpool’s engine room is quietly inspiring
Jürgen Klopp’s army. It is beautiful to see.
